Anthony Alcala envisioned a new venture to showcase and celebrate locations around Santa Cruz through personalized caps. Thus, Local Brim was born. Our team at GetVirtual, led by Angelina Doan and including Keerthi Gopinath, Anisha Malani, Zaria Su, and Camille Lai, was tasked with bringing his vision to life through a custom-built website.
Local Brim’s mission goes beyond just selling hats - each piece holds a wearable memory for both locals and visitors. Our team crafted a website that showcased these unique products while maintaining the brand’s authentic local feel. One of the key challenges was learning to utilize WIX’s content management system (CMS) so that each product had an individual product description. Due to utilizing CMS rather than the WIX store app, our team had to develop custom solutions, including a specially coded add-to-cart function. In addition, to add a distinctive touch, our team learned to create a custom wave divider for the website's footer through Adobe Illustrator. This design element helped to pay homage to Santa Cruz’s coastal heritage.
From scratch, our team utilized inspiration and recommendations from Anthony to formulate a professional portfolio website of headwear products inspired by Santa Cruz. From a learning perspective, the key concept of this project was adaptation. Despite the challenges our team faced, our collaboration and ability to learn through adjustment allowed us to present Anthony with a website that represented his company to a T.
